Just Shoot Film isn't just about developing negatives. It's about keeping film photography alive and accessible. I'm David, the founder, and I process C-41 colour film in 35mm and 120 format here in Norwich, sending negatives back to film shooters right across the UK.
Film has been part of my life since before I could tie my shoelaces. On my first day of school in 1991, I taught my mum how to use my dad's film camera, and that pretty much set the tone for everything that followed. I picked photography as an A-level at Northgate in Ipswich, ruined my first roll in a pitch-black darkroom on day one, and nearly gave up. Suffolk College brought me back: tutors who cared, darkroom time that mattered, and a course that left me genuinely excited about the medium. I went on to study Graphic Design at Norwich University of the Arts, specialising in photography, right as the industry was turning its back on film. Everyone was moving on. I wasn't convinced.
After university I spent three and a half years at Jessops, most of it in the lab. My manager taught me to respect the commercial side of processing, that every single roll matters, whether it's a wedding, a portrait session, or someone's slightly out-of-focus holiday snap of their cat. Every negative has a memory behind it. That stuck with me.
I started Just Shoot Film in 2024 and opened the doors in Norwich in April 2025. Digital shows you what the eye sees; film shows you what your memory sees. It slows you down and keeps you present in the moment, instead of chasing the perfect shot and missing the experience entirely. That's what this lab is built around: affordable processing, honest service, and keeping analogue photography accessible to everyone, students, hobbyists, professionals, and anyone who just wants to slow down and shoot.
